I remember the hardship of my forebears
pioneers crossing the prairies
like the Israelites wandering in the wilderness
ancestors hoping for a dwelling place
a homestead in a foreign land
I see the campfires they lit
hymns sung in the night
the courage of their convictions
hard work of their bodies
trust of their souls
some were clothed and supplied with bread
others weren’t
all were led to their final rest
on prairie land
